Jaume I University - PhD in Sociology

Andrés Piqueras is a senior professor at the Jaume I University in Castellón. He obtained the National Research Prize “Marqués de Lozoya” from the Spanish Ministry of Culture for the research La trama de la identidad en el País Valenciano. Un estudio de identidades colectivas (1994), from which his book La identidad valenciana. La difícil construcción de una identidad colectiva (1996) originated.

His line of research has been Globalization, new identities, and collective subjects. In relation to this, he has carried out numerous publications on identity and the construction of subjects in late-capitalist societies, with fieldwork in Europe, Latin America, and Africa.

He has been the director of doctoral courses on these topics and masters programs on Development, directing a work on the subject: Desarrollo y cooperación: un análisis crítico (2008). In 2004, he created the Permanent Observatory of Immigration at the University of Castellón, directing research and various publications on migratory processes for four years.

Between 2008 and 2025, he participated as a researcher in the International Crisis Observatory (OIC), with which he has carried out various publications, conferences, and seminars in different countries in Latin America and Europe.
